Andrew Bird ‘Lusitania’

The first time I saw Andrew Bird was in high school (!!) when he opened for Beck at Jones Beach.  I remember just thinking, what is the deal with this whistling guy.  Cut to the present, and he is hands down one of the artists that never lets me down in concert.  As great as he is to listen to on his albums, his songs really reveal themselves in performance, showing the layers of intricacies and work involved in making something sound so effortless.  Also, I’m always surprised at just how good his voice is.  I wanna be a rock star badly.

This past Saturday, I was lucky enough to see him at the Beacon, at the best concert of his that I’ve seen to date.  Not only were his newest songs very close to instantly lovable, but it was great to see just how comfortable he’s gotten on stage, bantering with the crowd and telling little stories.  He performed a few songs off his new album Break It Yourself, including this one, a duet with St. Vincent.  It was a runner up for favorite song for me on the album, but now it is at the top of the list.

Enjoy!  Yay, Monday.
